Michael Hurley Obituary

***CHANGE OF SERVICE DATE AND TIME DUE TO STORM***

Michael John Zeno Hurley, age 77, of Natick, Massachusetts, passed away on February 19, 2026, from causes related to myelodysplastic syndrome. Michael, “Big Mike,” was born on February 21, 1948, to John Joseph Hurley and Reine Marie Bourgeois Hurley in Waltham, Massachusetts.

He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Green) Hurley; dear brother to Johnny (Karen) Hurley, Renee (Billy) Aucoin, Marie (Tom) Gamble and Glen (Carol) Bressette; cherished father to Tara (Greg) Ross, Jason (Kristin) Hurley and Alissa (Chris) Belli as well as Tina (Scott) Willimason and Todd Roberts; and, affectionate Grampie to Roman, Benton, Vienna, Charlotte, Abby, Grace, Ariana, Connor, Troy and great-grandchild, Jaxson.

Mike began his career as a licensed plumber at just 18 years old for David Suvalle Plumbing & Heating, a company he eventually bought and ran for nearly six decades. His successful reputation in the industry - and the community at large—was built not just on hard work and craftsmanship, but on relationship. Plumbing was not just about tools for Mike; it became a tool for him to develop life-long customers, and ultimately friends, across eastern Massachusetts.

Mike loved living real life with real people. From the post office to the poker table to the plumbing supply house, from the bank to the barber to the boat shop or bowling alley, Mike was a familiar and fond face. As the loudest, jolliest guy in the room, strangers were swept up into a hug or burst into a chuckle at some colorful observation only he could make.

Mike cherished his childhood memories in Waltham with his close family of origin. He cherished watching his children grow up in Framingham and Cape Cod, cheering for them on the field and ice and stage and as they then became parents themselves. He cherished the new love and additional children that came from a blended family later in life in Natick and New Hampshire. He cherished the voices and personalities and traditions he shared with each grandchild, of whom he was deeply proud.

While Natick was his main residence, his heart was most content at his home and on the back deck in Laconia, New Hampshire overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. His happy place was going full throttle at 70 miles an hour in his cigarette boat. At any speed, the water brought him peace.

Mike was a voracious reader of crime novels and a devoted New England Sports fan. He loved watching old westerns, eating anything with pepperoni and tracking the ever-unpredictable weather. Mike left a legacy of making anything and everything more fun. He made us laugh, and the sound of his laughter will be most deeply missed.

Family and friends are welcome to come celebrate Mike's life by gathering for visiting hours in the Nardone Funeral Home, 373 Main St. Watertown on Wednesday February 25, 2026 from 3-6 PM, followed by a 6 PM funeral home service. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers and to continue Mike’s financial generosity towards children in need, please make donations to the Boys and Girls Club of Metrowest, 169 Pleasant Street, Marlborough, MA 01752, or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
