Rolando V. Caira age 88 of Newton, passed away at his home he lived in for most of his adult life on February 27, 2026. Beloved husband of 59 years to Luisa (Alicandro) Caira. Loving father of Michael Caira & his wife Rosemarie and Rosanna Caira & her husband Benjamin Brunkow. Cherished ‘Nonno’ to Lucas & Andy Caira and Gianluca & Lorenzo Brunkow. Dear brother to Gerardo Caira & his wife Marsella D’Agostino.
Rolando was a dedicated and respected business owner for more than 50 years. He first owned and operated Franco’s Market in Newton before purchasing Francis Food Mart in Watertown. For a time, he proudly ran both stores simultaneously, later focusing solely on Francis Food Mart until his retirement in 2019.
More than just a grocery store owner, Rolando was a true pillar of the community — the kind of neighborhood grocer who knew his customers by name, gave many their very first job, and provided a welcoming, safe place for neighbors, especially the elderly, to shop. He represented the heart of the old-school neighborhood market.
A hardworking and devoted man, Rolando dedicated his life to his businesses and, above all, to his family.
A visitation hour will take place in Corpus Christi - St. Bernard Parish, 1523 Washington St, Newton, MA 02465 on Tuesday March 3, 2026 from 9-10 AM followed by a 10 AM Funeral Mass. Burial will take place in Newton Cemetery.
